This Week In Media 9/10/13

Lots of names this week. Plenty of things coming out by people you have heard of. Although I’m not sure there’s anything all that great. Regardless there is plenty to talk about.

New This Week

In Theatres

The Family

Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer star in the latest Martin Scorsese film. Part of me thinks this may be really good. The other part thinks it looks weird and is skeptical that it is coming out at a time that normally shitty movies come out. Plus I hadn’t even heard of this until the last couple weeks. I don’t know what to expect from this. It could fly under the radar and be a hit but I, like most people I think, will be seeing this when it’s on demand or on Netflix or whatever.

Insidious: Chapter 2

This is a sequel? I don’t remember the original and now I certainly don’t understand the sequel.

Tunes

All kinds of people I have heard of, yet nothing I intend on listening to. However maybe you will…

2 Chainz - B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time

Earth, Wind and Fire - Now, Then & Forever

Gloria Estefan - The Standards

Keith Urban - Fuse

Sheryl Crow - Feels Like Home

Video Games

NHL 14

The best sports game year after year is back. Unfortunately it’s and EA Sports joint so you shouldn’t expect any real upgrades. No competition results in a lackadaisical effort. Regardless I love the NHL games.

Since I’ve Last Written

Podcasts

Doug Loves Movies

One of the best podcasts out there had a killer episode back on 8/28. 87 year old Harry Dean Stanton showed up and put on a performance. Great pod.

The BS Report

All of the best BS Report episodes are ones that feature Cousin Sal. Since 9/2 there have been four of them with a fifth one coming very shortly. I recommend them all highly.

TV

Breaking Bad

Jesus christ this show is good. Simply put, it’s the best ever. This week was no exception. I am going to miss feeling strung out on meth simply not not being allowed to watch the next episode immediately. While Netflix has created a world in which you can binge watch full seasons of shows, the best way to watch certain shows is to allow the cliffhanger to do its job. As much as I hate waiting a full week, that’s all I can really think about as far as TV is concerned. Let’s goooooooo Sunday night.
