Why You Should Be Rooting For Seattle

Image description

Maybe as a Pats fan you can call me biased, but I am really starting to have a strong opinion on this game. It may be more one sided than you think in the underdogs favor. Regardless there are several reasons you should be rooting for the Seahawks to win this one.

Because Peyton’s head does not need any more inflating

As you can see his forehead is big enough. It’s not so much him blowing his own head up that I’m worried about its ESPN and the next two weeks of SportsCenter that I am worried about. You can’t possibly want to see two straight weeks of ESPN on their knees followed by an entire offseason of football talk muffled by his cock in their mouth. I think you get the point. Peyton is one of the best quarterbacks of all time, without question. But he is not the greatest of all time. Win or lose he isn’t even the best of his generation. Tom Brady has done far more with far less on the offensive end and has played in five Super Bowls to Manning’s three. If Seattle wins, Manning will have a 1-2 record in Super Bowls, what kind of greatest QB ever has that kind of a record? If you gave Brady the cast of weapons Manning has had throughout his career, he may have made Jimmie Johnson look like a loosa. Yet ESPN is already on their knees, mouth agape, waiting for Peyton to unzip his fly. He is one hell of a character and an even better quarterback, that will go down as one of the best ever, but people need to start holding him in the shadow of Tom Brady instead of in between him and the sun.

Because defense barely exists as it is

Remember when the cliche “defense wins championships” held its strongest ground? Now pick plays are allowed on every play but hitting too hard is not. You can barely get away with sacking the quarterback without invoking a flag. A great defense is an art, as is a great offense, but making the game one dimensional is not good for the sport. While the majority of us, including myself, feels as though football is too big to fail, I really wish people, especially Roger Goodell, would consider how big the sport of boxing once was. I’m not saying it’s possible, but with the way the league is trending anything might be. The NFL is heading to the same place the NBA is, and if the two of them don’t smarten up Americans are going to be turn their backs on them the same way we have soccer. That’s not that farfetched either because the more I watch hoops and the more I watch football the more I feel as though the refs are now the center of attention. On any given pass play I assume a pass interference flag is about to fly the same way I feel as though a whistle is about to blow on any given take to the rim. We have gone soft not only in the sports world but as a society and that doesn’t bode well for the NFL. Especially with the NHL sticking to their guns and the UFC being such a strong up and comer. If Manning wins, we could see a brash of big offenses and more rules that handicap a defense. If the Seahawks win we might see teams try to build themselves the same way Seattle has. That would make for a better overall game, unless you’re a fake fan that just likes to see points go up on the scoreboard.

Because Russell Wilson is making about $600K for this season

This guy is the definition of humble. He finds a way to make plays and he finds a way to win games, yet he makes an unbelievably small amount of money for doing so, at least in comparison to other QBs. This kid deserves to get paid and becoming the first black QB to win a Super Bowl, he might just earn what he deserves.

Because Marshawn Lynch just wants to play

ESPN is such douchebags, or douche nozzles if you listen to the Adam Carolla Show. ESPN put a timer on how long he spoke to the media this week in an attempt to be humorous. However, talking to the media is not really his job. He skated by all season without speaking to the media before the NFL realized it late in the season resulting in a fine for Marshawn. Now during Super Bowl week he has spoken to the media for an average of six minutes a day, saying how much he doesn’t want to be up here and how much he doesn’t want to say anything. He just wants to focus and play the game he is being paid to play. ESPN can shit all over him if they want, but they are the reason for him being fined. The fact that he said the only reason he is speaking is so he doesn’t get fined should be taken as a criticism to the people of and like ESPN that demand it. The media rules are rather bogus, as is the fact that ESPN would take part in demanding interviews only to shit on those who don’t want to take part in them. ESPN constantly wants to find athletes to ride, and I can’t blame them but they don’t need to poke fun at the ones that want nothing to do with them. Especially since one ESPN employee can’t poke fun at another, just ask Bill Simmons or Tony Kornheiser.

Because the public is all over Denver creating great value for the Seattle moneyline

The more I think about this, the more I feel like the best gambling opportunity of the year is blossoming before our eyes in the final game of the season. While you can certainly make a case that this was Mannings year from Week 1 on, it baffles me why Denver would be favored by two or more points, depending on where you look. At the very least it should be a pick’em and therefore I am falling in love with the Seattle moneyline. Yes that is only a two point swing and yes it only +110, but I can envision a scenario in which Seattle dominates, I can’t envision any scenario in which Denver wins anything but a close game at the very end. The way the Broncos have been playing these close low scoring game, I just don’t see a way in which this thing goes over 48.5 so lay the Seattle moneyline and the under for a 3-1 score.
