This Week In Media 6/18/13
Rather slim in the “new” department this week but I feel like Monsters University more than makes up for it this week. Let’s get to it...
New This Week
In Theatres
World War Z
Wow does this look like it’s going to be awful. Worst part about it... if you go see this movie especially on opening weekend this thing could become a trilogy. They are certainly expecting $50+ million this weekend I hope it’s closer to around $10M.
Monsters University
Unless you are some sort of maniac this is where you should be spending your movie money this weekend. How could you not be excited for this? The first film was an instant classic and while sequels suck most of the time I fully trust Pixar. They haven’t steered me wrong yet, everything they make is great.
Podcast Notes
Adam Carolla Show
Larry Miller is back! Finally the hypothetical road trip game is back. Sounds like Larry has recovered nicely and is still funny as ever. A nice boost to the show every Monday.
Ace on the House
Lorenzo Neal was on the June 7th episode and was surprisingly witty and funny. You don’t have to have any interest in construction to listen to this one.
BS Report
Bill has been turning into just another ESPN guy seemingly ever since Grantland launched. I credit a lot of that to him hanging out with Jalen Rose but to hear him become erect while talking about the Heat winning Game 4 of the Finals this week was a new low. He basically just dismissed the thought of the Spurs having any chance of even winning another game in this series, and no shocker here... the Spurs won Game 5.
Queue Boosters:
Super - Netflix
Rainn Wilson stars as someone who becomes his own Superhero with the help of his sidekick Ellen Page. This movie gets dark and dirty at times but it has some great laughs and is well rounded as well.
Sleepwalk With Me - Netflix
Mike Birbiglia created a really fun movie that didn’t follow the typical setup of a comedy. There is some stand up comedy, there is a good story, there is some 4th wall breaking, and there is plenty of sleepwalking.
Hit n Run - Netflix
Have I recommended this thing yet? If I have I still haven’t recommended it enough. Dax Shepard stars alongside his real life wife Kristen Bell. Their chemistry is really great on screen. I would be shocked if they were miserable together in real life. They just seem perfect together and therefore they are perfect in this movie together. Since Dax was the driving force behind this movie it is really well done, funny, and has plenty of great cars and car chases. That Lincoln Continental he drives is just sick.
