Remember... Orlando Jones

Orlando Jones came on strong in the late 90’s with his commercials and appearances on sketch comedy. He put out a few pretty good comedies, then tried to go serious and was never heard from again….

“Make 7… Up Yours” That was what got me to notice Orlando Jones. It was the first novelty t-shirt that I bought, and then all of a sudden they were everywhere (and still are). Of course it’s not an insult, but an advertisement for 7up, which as a 9 year old kid on vacation in Lake George, New York , I thought it was just a 7up t-shirt (I wore it once in Lake George, then it “disappeared” and it was never seen again.) But novelty shirt and commercial aside, I was a big fan of Jones’ movies, early on anyway.

He was alongside Eddie Griffin (which wtf happened to him? Maybe another Remember topic...) Double Take, which wasn’t the best movie but I liked it. He was also in Evolution with David Duchovny and “Donkey Lips” from Salute Your Shorts. His most memorable role in my opinion was as Clifford Franklin in The Replacements. So what happened to Jones?

Well after Evolution, he rolled out his more serious efforts like The Time Machine, and Drumline. He got a couple stints in some shitty TV shows like Everybody Hates Chris, The Evidence, Tainted Love, and Sleepy Hollow. Those last two by the way, are circa 2013, you may have heard of Sleepy Hollow, as Fox continues to pump out shitty One Season-and-done shows. But Tainted Love? There’s no way anyone has heard of it, let alone know what channel it is on.

So Mr. Jones, it’s clear that no one can take you seriously and that you can’t carry a movie or TV show by yourself. So do your career and everyone else a favor and go back to being the 3rd or 4th funny guy on the movie depth chart. Trust me.
