This Week In Media 12/17/13
Thanks to the snow in the northeast this was delayed a day but there are some great movies coming out this week. Two of the movies have a lot of Oscar buzz surrounding them and the other might be the most anticipated comedy in years.
New This Week
In Theatres
American Hustle
Everything I hear says that Christian Bale is going to be nominated
for best actor. I have also heard mostly great things about the
movie on the whole. I am personally quite excited for this David O.
Russell film with a cast consisting of the aforementioned Christian
Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Jennifer Lawrence,
Louis CK, and Michael Pena just to name a few.
Anchorman 2
The past few months have been difficult. Ever since Talladega
Nights came out I had to enact a new policy. Once I am sold on
seeing a movie I make an effort to not see any trailers to not ruin
the movie. Talladega Nights was great the second time I saw it but
when I saw it opening weekend I was quite disappointed in the
comedy department. I’ve been sold on this film for nearly a decade
and cannot wait to see it, even if it simply can’t live up to the
hype.
Saving Mr. Banks
Another potential Oscar winning movie, that is being expanded to a wide release. While it is not getting the same reviews from the critics the academy does love themselves some Tom Hanks.
Since I’ve Last Written
Christmas Vacation
I think I say this every year but this movie does not hold up at all. While in a way it’s a classic but watching it as an adult I am constantly confused trying to figure out what they were thinking. Certainly it has a few good laughs but there are too many moments where I was just baffled by the stupidity.
