Penguins vs Senators Preview

Game 1, 7:30pm Tuesday, NBCSN

The first of the conference semifinals to get underway pits the suddenly struggling Penguins vs the rock solid looking Senators. Matt Cooke will be public enemy number one, as he usually is, but more so this series than ever since he slit Erik Karlsson’s achilles tendon earlier in the year. Could the Senators continue their great run and knock off the heavy favorite?

On paper the Penguins are far superior. But they have a few holes namely in their defense and obviously in-between the pipes. Vokoun looked much more solid in net than Fleury did but even he seemed shaky at best. Goals are going to be hard to come by this series even for an offense as potent as Pittsburgh’s which is why it is the most important thing that they make every goal count. If the Penguins can get any momentum behind them they might not be beaten again until the Finals. But if they pick up where they left off against the Islanders they might be in trouble.

Best Bet:

Senators +225

I really think they are going to pull this one off. Maybe I am overreacting to the Penguins struggle last round but things are not going to get any easier. The Senators have the best goalie in the NHL right now and they have a whole lot of added aggression to unleash on the Penguins. Erik Karlsson is the Sens leader and Matt Cooke stomped his leg slashing his achilles tendon, makes me cringe just thinking about it. This entire team has a lot to prove and they are hungry as hell. They have momentum in their favor and they are playing their best hockey of the season. Not to mention Jason Spezza appears slated to come back at some point this series. They remind me of the Golden State Warriors right now in that they are young, overlooked, underrated, and playing great as a team.

Bonus Bets:

Ottawa vs Chicago exact Finals matchup 14-1

Every year there is one goalie that stands on his head and carries his team to the promise land. This year it’s Craig Anderson. They are going to shock the world.

Ottawa to win the Cup 14-1
