Heading to Sunday of the Tour Championship

Image description

Early and often today it looked like Henrik Stenson would cruise to his $10M+ prize along with the title of FedEx Cup and Tour Champion. But he played the back nine at +3, allowing for some guys to maybe sneak into the conversation. Odds are at -500 that he will be a much richer man tomorrow night, but he did leave the door open. After all it is just the first time he has ever had a 54 hole lead on the PGA Tour. The butterflies might get the best of him and his four shot lead tomorrow. I have a few guys in mind that may be able to sneak up and steal this one if Stenson falters a bit tomorrow.

Stay Away From:

Dustin Johnson 5-1

I always used to root for DJ. After the US Open this year I have fell off the bandwagon for the 2013 season. While he is the closest to Stenson he also has a history of choking away big tournaments.

Best Bets:

Zach Johnson 45-1

Zach sits seven shots behind Stenson, so of course he is going to need some help, as will anyone that wants to overcome him, but Zach has shown just this past Monday, that he has the ability to close out a golf tournament. He can go low and rise to the occasion, even though his game is more steady. We should know early on whether Zach is going to be a factor or not, so keep a close eye on how dialed in his game looks on the first few holes.

Jordan Spieth 60-1

This 20 year old kid might be the next big thing in the golf world. He started the year without a Tour Card but somehow managed to play his way onto the President’s Cup team. That is amazing in itself, but tomorrow he will start seven shots back of Stenson. Should he somehow manage to win, his stock is going to blow up. This kid could end up with one of the more impressive years in golf history.

Phil Mickelson 150-1

I understand he is nine shots back of the leader, but is there anyone in the field better suited to make that up than Phil? Say Stenson plays tomorrow at +1 or so, would you put it past Phil to go really low and put his name in the running for at least a playoff? Now what if I offered you 150-1 on that happening; You wouldn’t pass that up right?

All of that is probably for naught, since Stenson has been rock solid in the second half of this year. But in my eyes those three guys have too much value to pass up.
