College Football Weekly: Week 9, 2013

Image description

I can’t believe how bad I have been at this this season. Usually I am better at picking college games than the pro ones but this year it’s reversed. I can promise you I will snap out of it at some point by the end of the year and I am feeling pretty confident about this weeks’ slate. There is about a half dozen good games, worth watching and plenty of good bets to make.

Big Games

Oklahoma vs Texas Tech 3:30pm

Alabama vs Tennessee 3:30pm

Missouri vs South Carolina 7:00pm

Oregon vs UCLA 7:00pm

TCU vs Texas 7:30pm

Ohio State vs Penn State 8:00pm

Locks of the Week 9-21

Maryland +14 vs Clemson

Clemson has not quite got what it deserves just yet. Did you guys see that entrance by the Clemson Tigers last week…

What a school full of douchebags. That will cost them this game as well. Maybe they don’t lose it outright but Maryland is competitive, especially at home, and should cover this without question. By the way, Tajh Boyd reminds me more and more of Vince Young every week.

Missouri -2.5 vs South Carolina

Can someone please explain this line to me? Yes, James Franklin is out for this contest, but so is Connor Shaw. Why would SC be a .5 favorite in this one? Maty Mauk proved that he could win a big game last week against the Florida Gators. This week he needs to prove he can be consistent against this level of opponent. Luckily for him, if he can dodge Clowney he can beat this team.

Penn State +14.5 @ Ohio State

Too many points. Honestly if this were +14 I wouldn’t have brought it up. Bill O’Brien will have his team ready to go for Braxton Miller and company.

NC State +32 @ Florida State

This is simply a play on FSU’s emotions. They so thoroughly dominated Clemson on the road last week that they are going to come out being proud of themselves. Whether this is the low scoring game where the offense struggles until late, or if it’s the defense struggles and NC State jumps out to a quick lead only to have FSU come back… NC State is going to capitalize by covering this week.

Texas Tech +7 @ Oklahoma

Stay tuned…

Teaser of the Week 3-5

UCLA +28.5 @ Oregon

Texas +8 @ TCU

I really think that TCU is the better team here, but they can’t beat anyone by two scores and Texas at least as the potential to play well. Also, you get UCLA with a four touchdown cushion? This is a no brainer.

Moneyline Specials 2-7

Northwestern +155 @ Iowa

NW seems to screw me every week but this week I really like them. They finally shook that bad loss to the Buckeyes and should be back at the top of their game. That two QB system should be clicking against this Iowa team.

Texas Tech +230 @ Oklahoma

Texas Tech is taking care of business yet they find themselves as a 7 point dog against this OU club. Has anyone watched OU this year? You don’t know what you are getting. They are inconsistent and really not good under pressure. Texas Tech is going to bring the pressure with their up tempo pass offense and knock this overrated team off on the road. If they don’t there’s no f’n doubt in my mind that +7 is a winner.

Oregon State +155 vs Stanford

Let’s be honest, Stanford is the better team. But after grinding out last the win against UCLA last week they are due for a bit of a letdown. Brandin Cooks might be the next Marvin Harrison and this Beaver passing attack is going to dominate this game.

Best Bet 2-6

UCLA +22.5 @ Oregon

This is a really good Oregon team, playing pissed off that they aren’t #2 in the BCS at home. Yes they should be at the top of their game. But UCLA is no pushover. 22.5 is a crazy number to be giving Brett Hundley and a more than solid defense.
