Blackhawks vs Wild Preview

Game 1 Tuesday 8pm NBCSN

Finally the 2013 NHL Playoffs are here. This will be the game that will kick off all the fun. After surviving the Avalanche in Colorado yesterday, 3-1 after an empty net goal, the Wild clinched the final playoff spot in the West. The Blackhawks as we all know are loaded. They rolled through this shortened season rather easily even while missing some big pieces for extended periods of time like Hossa and Sharp. Now they are back to being healthy and are as scary as ever.

Hell no. They had a chance to make a run at the #4 see when I last wrote about the playoff picture 4/17. At that point they had five games left and were sitting in 6th place. First they lost 6-1 @ SJ, the team that was directly ahead of them in the standings. Then they lost at home to the lowly Flames 4-1 before coming up with a big 2-1 home win against the Kings. However with the playoffs in sight they fell 6-1 at home to the Oilers before locking it up with a big road win against the Avs.

Can you really envision a team that loses to Calgary and Edmonton at home by a combined score of 10-2 while they are in a battle for a playoff spot, beating the team that went 36-7-5 this season with a league best +53 goal differential? I didn’t think so.

The Bet:

Blackhawks +450 to sweep

This is the best bet on the board for this series. I would also suggest hedging a bit with them to win in 5 games at 2-1. If you bet the same on both the worst case scenario is you finish even. There’s no way the Wild are winning two games this series.

Get ready for a lot of action in the Minnesota end. They have a good defense but the Blackhawks have an incredible team and championship aspirations. Their speed and offensive flow will destroy Minnesota.
