2013 NFL Power Rankings Week 8

Image description

For the first time in several weeks, we have a new #1 team in the rankings. Don't worry Tampa, you still suck and are in last place. See where everyone ended up in the Week 8 NotBS Power Rankings.

Rank Team Previous Rank Up/Down Record Against The Spread Next Opponent The Word
1 Chiefs 2 1 7-0 5-2 vs. Cleveland Barely beating a banged up Texans team starting a rookie QB on the road isn't something you want to do weekly.
2 Colts 7 5 5-2 4-3 BYE So you've beaten the Broncos, 49ers, and Seahawks? Wow.
3 Broncos 1 -2 6-1 4-3 vs. Washington This defense is not as good as we thought it was.
4 Seahawks 3 -1 6-1 5-2 at St. Louis Took care of business on the road against a divisional opponent on a short week.
5 49ers 4 -1 5-2 5-2 at Jax (London) Strong Defensive effort at home this week.
6 Saints 6 0 5-1 4-2 vs. Buffalo A week of to rest up Jimmy Graham was perfect for the Saints.
7 Packers 8 1 4-2 4-2 at Minnesota Brandon Weeden made that Packers defense look goooood.
8 Bengals 9 1 5-2 4-2-1 vs. New York Jets Mike Nugents big leg helps the Bengals on the road.
9 Cowboys 12 3 4-3 6-1 at Detroit Now's the time to jump on the Cowboys Super Bowl bandwagon.
10 Patriots 5 -5 5-2 3-4 vs. Miami Despite a Montreal Screwjob of a call, the Patriots dug their own grave by being 1/12 on 3rd down.
11 Bears 10 -1 4-3 1-5-1 BYE I hate the Bears.
12 Chargers 16 4 4-3 5-1-1 BYE Taking care of business on the road at 10 am your time is always impressive.
13 Titans 11 -2 3-4 4-2-1 BYE Welcome back Jake Locker, meet the 49ers defense.
14 Lions 14 0 4-3 4-3 vs Dallas Calvin Johnson is still a monster. Just throw it up and he's got it.
15 Dolphins 13 -2 3-3 3-3 at New England Never good losing to a backup QB at home after a Bye.
16 Eagles 20 4 3-4 3-4 vs. New York Giants Michael Vick is back? Is that a good thing?
17 Falcons 18 1 2-4 1-4-1 at Arizona Steven Jackson now back in the mix, they can still get that 6 seed.
18 Ravens 17 -1 3-4 3-4 BYE Are they tanking on purpose?
19 Texans 19 0 2-5 1-6 BYE Surprisingly Kubiak has survived the Bye so far.
20 Jets 24 4 4-3 5-2 at Cincinnati No one thought the Jets would have 4 wins this year. No one.
21 Bills 25 4 3-4 5-2 at New Orleans Stunned division foe Miami with THAD LEWIS!
22 Steelers 27 5 2-4 2-4 at Raiders Don't look now but they aren't out of it.
23 Panthers 26 3 3-3 3-3 at Tampa Bay Your 2013 good-bad team.
24 Redskins 28 4 2-4 2-4 at Denver 2 in a row and RG3 is starting to get some good mojo going, despite not being able to stop anyone.
25 Browns 15 -10 3-4 3-4 at Kansas City Jason Campbell to the rescue! Yikes.
26 Raiders 23 -3 2-4 3-3 vs. Pittsburgh A week off yo lick their wounds was good news for the Raiders.
27 Rams 21 -6 3-4 2-4-1 vs. Seattle They feel exactly like the Cardinals but with a weaker offense.
28 Cardinals 22 -6 3-4 4-3 vs Atlanta Good defense, bad Carson.
29 Giants 31 2 1-6 2-5 at Philadelphia No 0fer this year!
30 Jaguars 30 0 0-7 1-6 vs. SF (London) Bad bad bad.
31 Vikings 29 -2 1-5 2-4 vs. Green Bay Josh Freeman was a good idea right?
32 Buccaneers 32 0 0-6 1-5 vs. Carolina I may noy have been right on a lot this season in terms of prop bets, but Tampa under 7.5 wins is feeling pretty good.

Carolina -7 over Tampa Bay

Lock Alert
What's the over/under on the Nielsen rating on this game? 1.5? I mean seriously, you have to compete with Michael J. Fox back on NBC, Robin Williams back on CBS, and most importantly, game 2 of the World Series. Not to mention the fact that these are 2 fairly shitty TV markets; I'm taking the under. As for the game, it's been really tough to predict the Panthers this year, but if you read what I wrote above, you'll see that they've been dubbed the good bad team of the year. Their defense is good, but their offense is Jekyll and Hyde. If good Cam shows up, they roll. If bad Cam shows up, then sorry I just cost you some coin.

Tampa Bay +7 over Carolina

This isn't exactly  a vote of confidence for the Panters as much as a knock on the Bucs. The Bucs were really bad before they lost Doug Martin. Not that it swayed me too much since I felt he was vastly overrated as is but laying 7 with the Panthers on the road is nerveracking to say the least. Cam should roll, but when you add in the Bucs above average pass defense with the Panthers sloppy offense on a night known for providing sloppy games and the chocolate sauce of the sundae is that you are laying seven points on the road with the Panthers. Just too many points. Look for the Panthers to win a game that is only a notch above the Vikings/Giants game on Monday Night.
