Upon Further Review... Live Trucker

Image description

This is the live album recorded by Kid Rock. I have been listening to this thing constantly lately. I am a big Kid Rock fan but this got past me when it came out in 2006. Now I am making amends because it is fantastic.

If you have ever seen Kid Rock in concert you sort of know what this is about. He puts on a show. He does not just get up there and sing the song as it was written and recorded and played over and over again in my car. He goes out there and gives the fans their moneys worth.

This album features all of his hits up until 2006 and some lesser heard songs. All but that last song is incredible to hear. Not that 'Outstanding' isn't good it is just vastly different and far from outstanding. There are two appearances from Joe C. who sounds like he was on his last legs but it's good to hear him nevertheless.

My favorites on the album are two of the most famous songs he has, Bawitdaba and Cowboy. Bawitdaba is just fantastic although I often wonder if he regrets only writing two verses. It isn't like he go on stage and not play it every night. He has to play that jam and he has to make it memorable. Well he doesn't HAVE to as nowadays society would say, but he is a rock star and he cares about his fans so he puts on a fucking show. It gives him room to improvise and work the crowd but I do wonder if he wishes he had a third verse to just rattle off every night.

Cowboy on the other hand is not only a jam in itself but it comes with an intro on this album. Just Kid Rock giving Cowboy an elegant redneck introduction and he nails it. The transition from the intro into the song is perhaps the best part of the entire album.

One of my all time favorite songs is 'Only God Knows Why'. If you listen to studio version and the live version they are much different but both great. When I first heard this live rendition I was skeptical but the song finishes in a big way and really makes it into a separate song than the studio version.

Great album, absolutely look into it. If you are a Kid Rock fan you have no excuse go check it out. If you aren't give it a listen at the very least you will hear someone actually trying to put on a show in a world where nobody cares anymore.
