This Week In Media 10/8/13

Image description

It’s Tuesday again already, and this week we have a movie that could be nominated for several Oscars a movie that could be nominated for several Razzies and an album by a bigger train wreck than the one in The Lone Ranger.

New This Week

In Theatres

Captain Phillips

If you watch Breaking Bad, you probably don’t need to see this movie since they showed it seemingly in its entirety during a commercial break of the finale. I love me some Tom Hanks even though some of his stuff is wildly overrated, so I will be seeing this flick as well. I just hope that Wilson from Cast Away gets a cameo.

Machete Kills

This movie has the attention of people like myself that enjoy bad movies. Having said that, the first one was unwatchable. This time through the cast should be better and the movie itself should be more fun, regardless The Expendables won the war.

Tunes

Korn - Paradigm Shift

From what I have heard, this album has people excited. Supposedly this song is the only one on the album with the sound of a 2013 song. So in theory this should be the worst song on the album. I work with a guy who is a fan of Korn and he is pretty excited about this album coming out, from what I have been told it may be worth checking out.

Miley Cyrus - Bangerz

What a train wreck this broad has become. There seems to be nothing Miley wants more than to be the next sex symbol only there’s one problem, she isn’t the slightest bit sexy. In fact she is rather repulsive and has never looked worse than she does now. I almost didn’t put up a picture of her because I didn’t want to have to look at her. But it may somehow beat listening to her.

Podcasts

Nerdist

Yesterday, Tom Hanks returned to talk to Chris Hardwick and the gang and while I haven’t listened just yet I am excited as hell because the first time he was on that show it was an absolutely ten. It should be one again.

Queue Boosters

Eastbound and Down

I’ve been making an attempt to get caught up on some TV as of late. This was one of the more anticipated shows. Finally Kenny Powers and Stevie Janowski are back in action. The season opener was fantastic as was most of the second episode. The final season of this show has been set up to finish nicely and provide a ton of laughs along the way. This should be right near the top of your television priorities list and way higher than the new season of Homeland, which I have decided to just pass on all together.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

I really like what I have seen out of this new show. This show has the potential to be a poor mans Office. The problem I forsee is that they will take it the wrong direction. If they are smart, they will spread the cast out and not just rely on Samberg to carry the show. He is funny as hell, but if this show is going to have legs it can’t just simply rely on him. The best thing they did was bring in Chelsea Peretti. She is as funny as they come and should compliment this show very nicely. I just hope they make the right moves with this show and don’t squash it before it really gets going.

The League

Another great season from The League is underway. It’s amazing how far fantasy football has come. I remember playing it with my aunt when I was a kid. We would draft over the phone, just the two of us, no roster moves and she would keep score maybe twice a season. Also she would kill me every year with guys like Fred Taylor and Carl Pickens… fuckin Carl Pickens.

Anyway, this show is just fantastic. Between the laughs and the cameos this show has become a must see.

Parks and Rec

Speaking of must see, Parks and Rec is now the best sitcom on TV. The season premiere was an hour long episode and right up there with the best they have come out with. This season looks about as promising as it can. Enjoy it now because it may not be around too much longer.

Animation Domination HD

I just want to be clear, I don’t watch this shit and I don't reccomend you do. I don’t even know when it’s on, nor do I care. However I happened to end up on the wrong channel at the wrong time when I overheard this brilliant joke… “You should feel bad for me I just found out I’m Asian… You didn’t know you were Asian?... No why didn’t you tell me?” They actually had the balls to put in a laugh break after that last line. Somebody actually thought they were writing a joke there.
