Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond

With Denny Hamlin out there is clearly one guy that is head and shoulders above the rest of the field at Richmond, Kyle Busch. He is the favorite this week going off at just +350. This .75 mile short track makes for some different racing. The best of the drivers will be able to do the opposite of what most of us think would be the fastest way around the track. That being, instead of driving deep into the corners they will back off the throttle earlier in order to get back into it sooner and really gain speed off the corners. You are going to see some fast speeds for a short track this week. That makes for fun/tough racing but also big wrecks that could shake up the big picture.

If you missed the action last night, which I am sure most people did with the stupid draft and the NBA Playoffs on, it was only the Nationwide Series but the NASCAR twitter society blew up after seeing Brian Scott going to greet Nelson Piquet Jr., whom have had a few run ins in the past, only to be met with a karate kick to the nuts. Unfortunately I still can’t find good video of it.

Best Bets:

Kyle Busch 3.5-1

Of course only one guy can pay off a bet to win the race. Kyle just happens to be the best at this track that there is. He has won this race the past two years. He has won at Richmond four times in sixteen career starts. In those sixteen starts he has posted a stunning twelve top fives while not even once finishing outside of the top twenty. That figures out to be an average of a 5.44 finish, best amongst active drivers. In other words he owns this track. He is going to win this race.

Jimmie Johnson 10-1

Jimmie Johnson betting rule. When he is outside the top two or three best odds, he is 6th best this week, you put money on him. 10-1 is ridiculous, what a gift to everyone. He does not have the greatest average finish here, but he has won three times which is tied for second with Stewart, Jr, and Terry Labonte amongst active drivers for most wins at Richmond only behind Kyle whom has four. He starts a bit deeper in the pack but he is Jimmie Johnson he will find his way to the front.

Bonus Bet:

Denny Hamlin 18-1 to win the Championship

This might be the time to bet Hamlin. With it looking like he is going to return next week at Talladega this line might see some action over the next week, although if I am Hamlin’s doctors I am really fighting to have to sit out Dega as well. With such high speeds, tight packs and big wrecks it might not be the smartest race for him to return to coming off a fracture in his back. I would get in for some money now at 18-1 and keep an eye on it over the next week to maybe put a little more down if the line moves up, should he sit out Talladega.

Whenever Denny does return he is going to go all out. He knows he needs wins to get in. Can you think of a more fun bet you can make this year? 18-1 for a guy that won five times last year eight times in 2010 and four times in 2009. We all know he can win races. He can still get in as a wild card on wins and I can’t think of a more fun bet to root for.
