This Week In Media 4/9/13
Rather stacked week. Four movies worth talking about, four albums and plenty of other fun stuff.
New In Theaters
Scary Movie

At a certain point in a
series the new product will begin to taint the original product
that made you stick around for a sequel for four. That point for
this series was at least two movies ago. The first two were great,
the third had some good laughs and then flat-line. The Wayans
brothers left the series for a reason. Because there is only so
many great scary movies you can make fun of. They ran out of
material, yet the studios non-surprisingly decided to press on.
Which by the way ruins any future hopes of a Scary Movie-esk flick
in the future. Because they will be taking what little new material
there is and turning it into it's own 90 minutes. Please
stop.
In case the cast sort of sucks you in, know that the director is Malcolm D. Lee. Who directed such greats as Undercover Brother, Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins, Soul Men and a couple other gems.

Finally another white guilt movie. It has been a while.
To
the Wonder
This is a movie that we
are not seeing enough promos for. It has been available in some
places. It was released overseas and has been in some film
festivals. But it gets a good ole widespread American releasing
this week.
First, Terrence Malick is
the director. For those of you who are not familiar with him he is
regarded as one of the best, most interesting, and weirdest
directors there are. This is only the seventh movie he has directed
dating back to 1969's 'Lanton Mills'. He took 20 years off and then
dropped 'The Thin Red Line' on us. Just a few years ago he made
'The Tree of Life' which was nominated for best picture. Maybe it's
the film, maybe it's the mystique but it is a big deal that this
movie is coming out and you should go see it.
If you did not believe me that he was regarded as a big deal maybe the cast will talk you into it. This film stars Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Javier Bardem and that chick from 'Quantam of Solace', Olga Kurylenko. Also of note she is in the Tom Cruise movie 'Oblivion' which drops next week. Great cast, great director, I am in.
Disconnect
This is another movie that you may have been able to find before but is just now getting a wide release. It seems like it is going to be one of those 'Crash' type movies but stars Jason Bateman so I am at least a little interested. I will see this one eventually.
New Albums
Reliance by Drowning
Pool
Paramore by Paramore
Wheelhouse by Brad
Paisley
House of Gold and Bones Part 2 by Stone
Sour
Four albums dropped today from bands I have heard of. That is rare. However I am not really excited for any of these. I will say this though Stone Sour sucked me in with that first hit of theirs so I do have a little hope I might hear something good at some point. The other is Brad Paisley. It is starting to get warm out again and that makes country music all the more fun.
Queue Boosters
Top Gun
Planes Trains and
Automobile
Two oldies but goodies. Probably everyone reading this has seen both of these classics however if you haven't or if you are just in the mood for a classic, they are both on Netflix instant.
