This Week In Media 3/26/13

Image description

This might be the first halfways good week I have drawn this year. The Rock and Tyler Perry have movies, there are two top notch video games out today, an album by a guy I thought was dead, or just about, and a couple country albums drop today as well.

New In Theaters

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

This movie drops on Thursday this week, not Friday. That gives you an extra day to get out to the theaters this weekend and see just how much arm butter the Rock has on. This movie is going to be terrible and therefore I can not wait... to see it on demand for free. I am sure if you enjoy the Fast and Furious movies you will like this flick. It will be ridiculous and over the top silly, but bad ass and fun.

Tyler Perry's Temptation

At what point are they going to start hiding Tyler Perry's name from the title of his movies? I remember in the theaters a preview for the movie 'Devil' came on. Everyone a little interested, or at the very least quiet and watching the trailer. Then at the very end up popped the following phrase, “From the mind of M. Night Shyamalan”. To which the entire theater erupted with laughter. I don't remember the movie I saw that night, but I remember that.

Point is, Tyler Perry is dangerously close to that level. I have not been in the mood to torture myself lately so I have not seen much of his work, but this movie was not released to the critics according to Rotten Tomatoes... if you have a good film in your hand you are shoving it down the critics throat. This is going to be just as bad if not worse than 'Devil' and might just be his undoing. And I will be there watching it for free on demand sometime eating my popcorn and laughing at what you deem an attempt.

Albums

Lil Wayne - I Am Not A Human Being II
Alan Jackson - Precious Memories Volume II

Blake Shelton - Based On A True Story

With the weather starting to get warmer and mini skirt day approaching for all the cold weather cities, country music is going to be hitting far more peoples speakers.

I wish I could say the same about Lil Wayne. Glad to hear he is doing much better but please enough with the shitty music. I was forced into listening to just about nothing but Lil Wayne in college, and began to like him to an extent. But recently one of his songs came up on my iPod and I wanted to throw up. So I went on to another one of his, same result. I skipped through quite a few and it was like actual shit was spewing out of my ears.

To be fair, some of his songs are brilliant. He could have been and maybe still could end up one of the greatest ever. But he needs to stop invading my radio with his every song now a days sounds exactly the same. I know for a fact I said this when I was a kid to my parents and I am sure it happens with every generation since the beginning of time. But the shit that is on the radio now has to be the worst of all time. It isn't even music. There is no playing of instruments, just syntho, dance?, bullshit. I don't even know what it is. I just know asshole DJ's like to blast it at sports bars now. They can all go die but that is for a separate time.

I will not be listening to Lil Wayne's new album because there is going to be just one 60 minute song on it. I am sure I will be forced into hearing it on the radio at some point.

Video Games

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14

Another year another fun Tiger Woods game. There is not really much to say. I hate to be the guy who has the job to preview this game every year. The temptation to just copy and paste must be unbearable. This year it seems like there are more people to play with including a bunch of the legends of the game. And from what I have read for the first time in any golf video game ever all four actual Major events will be playable. In other words no more EA Sports Open.

Bio Shock Infinite

I wish I knew more about this game. Every review I have seen has it as the game of the year already. It is getting nearly a perfect 10 from everyone. I can't say if it actually lives up to the hype. But I remember when Bio Shock 2 came out back in 2007 and it was a rather big deal. This time through they had a budget of $100 million. So it should be a big hit.

Queue Boosters

Fat Man Little Boy

The Babymakers

Both of these come in on Netflix Instant and both contain members of the Broken Lizard comedy group. Fat Man Little Boy is a comedy show, just over an hour, by Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme. They do some stand up, some bits, chug some beers and tell some stories. If you like any of their movies, you will absolutely love this. They get into crazy stories from Super Troopers and Beerfest and future endeavors. 8/10

The Babymakers is a Jay Chandrasekhar film but also includes Kevin Heffernan as the guy from early Parks and Rec's (Paul Schneider), best friend. Paul is trying to get his wife (Olivia Munn) pregnant but has come to find out he has bad sperm. So he must try and steal back some sperm he once donated from a sperm bank in order to save his family. I am not a fan of Mr. Schneider and that makes that last name 0/2. But the scenes with other people in them are really good and rather funny. Chandrasekhar and Heffernan bring the laughs and even Olivia Munn shows her comedy prowess. It's about 90 minutes and on Netflix instant. It is absolutely worth a look. 7/10
