Remember... The 2012 NCAA Tournament
Last year's NCAA Men's Basketball tournament was one of the most boring in history. That's because it featured one of, if not the most dominant college basketball team of all time.
After one of the most improbable tournament runs in 2011 by the Kemba Walker led UConn Huskies, there was nothing suprising about the 2012 Kentucky Wildcats. Led by Anthony Davis, the Wildcats dominated every team that got in their way. They averaged 81.3 points per game and put up 102 in their Elite Eight matchup against Indiana. Not only was Anthony Davis unstoppable, but the Wildcats also had future NBA draft picks Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Doron Lamb, Marquis Teague, and Terrence Jones. But enough about the champs, here's some quick facts about last years tournament:
Defending Champion UConn was eliminated in their first game by Iowa State
#2 Seeds Duke and Missouri were eliminated in their first game.
The Under won every time in the Over/Under point totals for the Final Four games.
3 #1 Seeds made it to the Elite Eight
The State of Ohio had 4 teams make it to the Sweet 16 (Ohio, Ohio State, Xavier, Cincinnati)
So what does all of this mean for 2013? Absolutely nothing. There is no dominant team in the field like Kentucky was in 2012. Sadly we won't have Gus Johnson for a tournament that is sure to be full of unpredictability, but regardless it should be a fun ride.
