Big Ten 2013 Preview

Image description

It’s a 2 team race for supremacy in this once highly competitive division, but after you factor in team penalties, this one shouldn’t be close.

As much as it pains me to say it being a Michigan Wolverines fan, Ohio State should run away with this conference. Braxton Miller comes in as a Heisman favorite, and coach Urban Meyer has been taking a lot of heat since the off field issues of his former Florida Gators players. The Buckeyes were a powerhouse last season, and would have been BCS Bowl bound if not for a post season penalty. Speaking of post season penalties, the only team that can challenge the Buckeyes are ineligible for the post season this year, Penn State. Bill O’Brien restored some pride in the Nittany Lions last season by posting an 8-4 record in 2012, including a win vs. #24 Northwestern, and an overtime win against Wisconsin in the last game of the season. Penn State was able to hang with the Buckeyes last season before falling 35-23 at State College. The two teams will meet on October 26th at 8 PM at Ohio Stadium.

Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern, and Wisconsin are all also ranked in the preseason USA Today top 25 poll. Unfortunately the Big 10 is the most overrated conference in football, so I don’t see any of them finishing there. Wisconsin is one of the most disappointing in college sports, and as of late the Corn Huskers have been too. Taylor Martinez is back with Nebraska this season, and should be running all over the place drawing comparisons to Russell Wilson come 2014 draft time.

Take a look at some of the best bets for the Big 10 in 2013:

Braxton Miller to win the Heisman Trophy +600

Ohio State Buckeyes to win the Big 10 5/6

Michigan Wolverines under 8.5 wins -140

Penn State Nittany Lions over 8 wins -115

Nebraska Corn Huskers to win the Big 10 Legends Division 11/4
