Beat The Spread: Week 8

So after what can only be described as an abysmal start to the season, you boy Big Country is slowing climbing back into the light.  I had a big college week last week, going 5-2, getting me so close to .500 I can taste it (21-24-1).  This week I got 8 more games that I really like, and am planning in being in the green come Sunday morning.  As always, the home team is in CAPS.

Kansas State (+8) over OKLAHOMA

Oklahoma is coming off two tough games.  Two weeks ago they got beat by TCU, and last week they were played tight by an underwhelming Texas team.  I think it's safe to say the Sooners are going to be banged up, mentally and physically.  They are going to be in for a battle taking on Kansas State, who is coming off a bye week and should be fresh and well prepared.  This is a K-State team that almost took out Auburn, and I like them straight up against the Sooners.

Baylor (-8) over WEST VIRGINIA

I know the Baylor offense has been "underperforming" as of late, but they still lead the nation in points scored, and haven't been challenged by anyone other than TCU.  I think they should be able to handle West Virginia pretty easily.  They may have a solid record, but don't forget West Virginia struggled to get by Maryland and Texas Tech this season, which doesn't give me much hope for them against Baylor, who I consider a playoff team.

Michigan State (-16) over INDIANA

Everybody knows about the Spartan defense, which you could argue is the best defense in college football.  How do you think they will do against an Indiana offense that is starting a 3rd string freshman QB?  It could get ugly for the Hoosiers.  Even if Indiana can some how put up some points, the defense has to stop someone.  The 91st ranked Hoosier defense is allowing 31 points per game, and the Spartans offense is good.  Real good.  4th in the nation in scoring, they are averaging 45 points a game.  This isn't going to be a pretty game.

ARKANSAS (+4) over Georgia

Usually when you gamble you want to rely on common sense and numbers.  You find something that sways you one way or the other.  This game is just based on my gut.  This Arkansas team lost to Alabama by 1.  They went to OT with Texas A&M.  They are just due to win one of these big time games right?  At home, against a Georgia team that I think is a little overrated, I'm going to guess this is the week Arkansas pulls one out.

Missouri (+6) over FLORIDA

Wait, is this a joke?  Missouri is getting points?  I don't care if the game is in a Florida, the Tigers are a better team than the Gators.  The Tigers were embarrassed by Georgia last week, so they come out extra motivated and take care of business.

MISSISSIPPI (-17) over Tennessee

The Vols offense sucks, and the Rebels are, in my opinion, the best defense in college football.  I don't see Tennessee scoring more than 10 points, which is less than they scored against Florida.  Considering Oklahoma and Georgia were both able to put up over 30 points on the Vols, I don't see the Rebels having any issue covering.

Nebraska (-7) over NORTHWESTERN

I love this spread.  Nebraska should be a double digit favorite, but because Northwestern beat two big names (Penn State and Wisconsin) it's only a touchdown.  I got news for you, Penn State and Wisconsin are average teams right now.  This Nebraska team rolled through Miami, Illinois, and Fresno State before playing a tight one with Michigan State, where they were the only team to hold the Spartans under 30 this season (MSU has put up 45 or more every other week).  They also didn't play last week, giving them an extra week to game plan.  Give the points.

Notre Dame (+12) over FSU

I like the Irish straight up in this one.  Florida State is not playing like last year's team.  Oklahoma State came within 6 of FSU, Clemson went to OT with the Seminoles, and NC State out up over 40.  I think that Notre Dame has the better QB (Golson has been filthy) and the better defense.  And before you call me a hater, I am a BC fan and hate ND way more then FSU.  I don't think the Noles go undefeated, and this is the week they go down.

So there you have it.  The 8 games that are going to get me over the .500 mark.  Follow me on twitter @michaelrooney26
