Beat The Spread: Thanksgiving

Image description

So if you were paying attention last week, two on going themes continued in our Beat the Spread segment. The first, I can’t count. For at least the 3rd week, I told you I was picking a certain amount of games, but I picked a different amount. Last week I said I was picking 9 games, but I only took 8. The second repeated theme of the week? Well, I went .500 again, going 4-4 against the spread. That brings my season record to 43-48-1. Not good, but certainly could be worse. With the holiday tomorrow, I decided to give you all a special Thanksgiving version of Beat the Spread, as I wanted to pick the games for Thanksgiving Night, but feel like Wednesday is too early to pick the Saturday games. So you get 2 games today, and make sure you tune in at the end of the week for my remaining picks. As always, the home team is in caps.

Louisiana State University (-3) over TEXAS A&M

Texas A&M stinks. I know that they beat Auburn earlier this month, but anyone who watched that game knows that Auburn should have won that game. They lost to both Mississippi teams by more than 2 touchdowns, to Alabama by 59, and to Missouri by 7. Which one of those games gives you confidence that they beat LSU in prime time? I know LSU just got shut out by Arkansas, but you could argue that Arkansas is playing the best football in the country right now. Les Miles and the Tigers beat Ol Miss and Wisconsin this year, and took Alabama to overtime. They are a legitimate good team. They win this by at least a TD.

TEXAS (+7) over Texas Christian University (TCU)

I LOVE Texas over TCU tomorrow night. In fact, I’m seriously considering taking Texas straight up.

TCU is not a good road team. I know that sounds insane considering they are 9-1 and the #5 team in the country, but take a look. They have had 4 games on the road this year. The first was a 56-0 shutout of SMU. Nothing wrong with that road game. But the rest? They lost to Baylor on the road, giving up 61 points (the third most Baylor has scored all season by the way). After that they traveled to West Virginia, where they squeaked out a 31-30 win. West Virginia is a good football team, but nothing special (6-5 on the season). And then for their last game they traveled to Kansas to face the 3-8 Jayhawks, and won 34-30. I have no confidence they are going to be able to come to Texas and win by more than a TD. Take the points.
