Beat The Spread: Bowl Edition

Image description

I'm baaaaaack.  Well, I've been here the whole time, doing my NFL picks (and getting my ass whooped, but that's another story).  But I have gotten some feedback from some people (and by people I mean one person) requesting some college bowl picks.  Well, I'm here to give the people what they want.  I'm going to pick every game from today, Saturday the 27th, till the end of bowl season (minus the national championship, since that isn't set).  I figure today is when the real bowl games matter anyway.  I mean, the games that already happened were pretty boring anyway.  So here are my picks (not as detailed as usual).  Good luck gamblers.  Some of the Saturday games probably will have started prior to this getting posted, so I will tweet my picks as well.

Virginia Tech (+3) over Cincinnati

I think that these types are pretty even.  I'm going with Tech because I think they have the better coach, and with the past few weeks to prepare coaching has a huge impact in these bowl games.

Arizona State (-7.5) over Duke

I hate to say this about an ACC team, but Duke is so overrated it's sad. (In football.  Fuck Duke Basketball).  Sure they went 9-3, but they did it by avoiding the top 4 teams in the Coastal (FSU, Clemson, Louisville, and BC).  Don't trust them.

Miami (-3.5) over South Carolina

Both of these teams had higher expectations this season, and neither want to be in this bowl.  But I think we are going to get a very pro Miami crowd, and I think the energy motivates them a little more that a flat SC team.

Boston College (-3) over Penn State

This game is going to be a defensive battle, as the defense is the strength of both teams.  Overall, I like the mobility of Murphy, who should be able to get out of the pocket and make plays.  I don't think Penn State's O-Line can hold up to an underrated BC front 7.

USC (-7.5) over Nebraska

One of the big X Factors in bowl games is team motivation.  The Nebraska players seemed to genuinely love playing for Bo Pelini, and with him being fired, I see Nebraska quitting at the first sign of adversity.

Clemson (+3.5) over Oklahoma

The Sooners expected to be playing in the playoff this year, not in the Citrus Bowl.  They are going to come out flat, and you can't do that against a Dabo Swinney team.  He is going to have his team fired out, and they are going to come out hot.

Arkansas (-6.5) over Texas

I honestly believe that this Arkansas team could beat anyone any give day.  They beat Ol Miss and LSU, and gave Mississippi State and Auburn tough games.  I don't think Texas could stay within 2 TDs of any of those teams.

Notre Dame (+7.5 over LSU)

I think LSU wins this game, and are a better team.  But the offense isn't that good, and with the extra half point, I'm going to go with the Irish to keep it within a TD.  I don't think ND is as bad as they ended the season, and this extra break gives them time to give that defense in order.

Louisville (+7) over Georgia

I truly believe in this Louisville team, and in particular there defense.  I think they win this game straight up over an extremely overrated Bulldogs squad.

Auburn (-7) over Wisconsin

Wisconsin straight up quit against Ohio State, giving up 59 points and getting shut out.  So they have that hanging over them, their coach quit on them, and they talk on an Auburn team that, despite some hiccups, is still a legit offense.  No chance Wisconsin keeps up.

Baylor (-3) over Michigan State

You know Baylor is looking to deliver a message that the committee fucked up by passing them for Ohio State.  It wouldn't shock me if Baylor wins by 20.

Missouri (-5) over Minnesota

One word for this game.  EWWWWWWW.  Is anyone going to watch this besides each teams fans and gamblers?  You all know how I feel about Mizzou, so this shouldn't be a shock.  The defense is going to cause Minnesota fits all game.

Florida State (+9) over Oregon

If Florida State was an 8-4 team last year they would be favored in this game.  They are undefeated, always find a way to win, and have all the intangibles you look for in a contender.  But because they were blowing teams out last year we expect the same.  FSU wins this straight up, and wins the national championship.

Ohio State (+9) over Alabama

Alabama is going to win this game, but 9 points is a bit high for my liking.  LSU, Mississippi State, and Arkansas were all able to keep it close, and Ol Miss was able to upset Alabama, so I don't think this will be a blow out.

Houston (+3) over Pittsburgh

This is essentially a home game for Houston, being played in Fort Worth.  I think that Houston has a sneaky good defense, and are just better.

Iowa (+3.5) over Tennessee

I don't trust the Vols offense.  I don't trust the Iowa offense.  When in doubt I take the points.

Kansas State (+1.5) over UCLA

Lock of the bowl games.  Lock of the year.  Lock of the century.  Everyone knows how I feel about Bill Snyder and Kansas State.  If you don't go back and do some research.  The fact they are a dog is ridiculous.

Washington (-6) over Oklahoma State

Oklahoma has won one game since October 11th.  That isn't a typo.  They aren't good.  Take Washington

East Carolina (+7) over Florida

East Carolina can score.  A lot.  Florida's coach was just fired.  They probably aren't going to be super motivated, when you know East Carolina is looking at this game as their Super Bowl.  Take the motivated team.

Toledo (-4) over Arkansas State

Because...  Fuck I don't know just pick a team.

Well that's it.  Good Luck gamblers, and see you next season.
