Remember... Fighting Back

There was a time when if somebody did something that was wrong to you, you could fight back and not have to worry about consequences. When I was a kid my father told me if someone hits you, you hit them back. I'm sure a lot of the players in professional sports were taught the same thing. Now you look at the major sports, and ¾ of them don't allow it. We're going against everything we were taught when we were kids, and it's not a good thing.

Let me start by saying I am not condoning starting the fight. That's not neccesarily the right thing. If someone swings at you and hits you, your first instinct is to swing back, not walk away. As an avid Boston fan, I love Kevin Garnett, but he is one of, if not the dirtiest player in the NBA. He is very chippy and will do whatever he can to get under another player's skin. That is his game. Sometimes he steps over the line and another player will go back at him and 9 times out of 10 the other player gets caught and hit with a technical. Let the men play. It's outrageous how grown men can agree to a fight to settle things, have a winner determined, and then have new rules and regulations decide that both men are wrong and toss them both from a game.

Another example is baseball. Look at what happens when a pitcher nails one of the best players on the other team square in the ass with a 95 MPH fastball. Now both benches are warned and the team that got hit has no chance to retaliate. It all comes back to society changing. It's disgusting how awful we've become. Sports are a physical event trying to establish superiority, and society is taking that away from people. What's even sadder is that I don't think we will be able to get back to the way we were before. Let's hope for a miracle and sports can be sports again, where competitors are allowed to compete.
